Makeup Favorites Of An Ex Beauty Blogger

December 16, 2018

Even though I've taken a step back from the beauty blogging community this year, makeup is still a big part of my life. I love plastering on a full face! It makes me feel beautiful, it makes me feel like a little bit of an artist and it definitely is something that I consider to be self care. Not only do I thoroughly enjoy doing my makeup, it just makes me happy. 2018 was the year I really started focussing on my mental health, and makeup helped a lot. As a stay at home girlfriend I probably spend a little too much time in front of the mirror but then again, if I can afford to, why not? You're right, I'm going to enjoy this until the very end. Also, I don't think I've ever had a better makeup routine! Being a former beauty blogger I stopped buying a lot of makeup just for the sake of review. I started focussing more and more on products that I actually liked instead of purchasing items simply for my site. I've had the same makeup routine for about 6 months now so I think I've got my personal face favorites pretty narrowed down. It's a mix of super affordable budget makeup, drugstore makeup and high end makeup, here we go!

Zoeva Nude Spectrum Palette €36

This palette was a gift from my sister for my birthday and it has been through - a lot. It's an eyeshadow palette with 15 neutral colors of which I've hit pan on 6, some of them are completely gone by already. I use every single shade and I love that there's no need to be using an eye primer for longevity or smooth application. The shades are all pigmented and easy to blend as well. I honestly wish I would have gotten this palette sooner. It's quite affordable too, given the quality of the eyeshadows and I really like that this is from a European company.

L'Oreal Paradise Extatic Waterproof Mascara €14.99

L'Oreal has sent me quite some PR this year and this was definitely one of the products that stood out to me. Don't confuse this mascara with the original L'Oreal Paradise Extatic because it's nothing like it. I reviewed it on my blog doing a comparison and I recently repurchased the waterproof one because the formula of the L'Oreal Paradise Extatic Waterproof gives me the longest and most feathery lashes I have ever seen on myself. The product doesn't flake, which for someone like me is a godsend, and it's been one of the most reliable mascaras I've come across in a long time. The part that I'm most excited about is that my lashes have also stayed healthy and have grown a lot since. When you use a lot of makeup, you sometimes notice that using a lash curler and mascara every day can affect your lashes, instead my lashes look great, really great.

Essence Ultra Last Instant Color Lipstick €2.39

Even though Essence has discontinued my favorite shades from this lipstick range (nr 2 Cara Melted and nr 6 Newd Seduction) I still wanted to mention them in my favorites list. Essence has always had some of the best lipsticks on the market, according to moi. I have the driest lips on the planet and these lipstick are both moisturising, have great pigmentation and last a decent amount of time. They are creamy and some of the only lipsticks I've ever managed to actually finish. I always go back to these, always, there's not one lipstick that has caught my attention more, from any other brand. I've tried lipsticks 10 times this price point, I didn't like them. I tried because I felt like I maybe was a little too attached to my great bargain, but I'm not, they're just very nice lippies.

NYX Slide On Lip Pencil 08 Sugar Glass €7.20

Again, another all time favorite! Best formula for dry lips, no need for prepping or scrubbing, you just slide it on and you're good to go. You've probably noticed a little trend here already, I like no fuss makeup. Stuff that actually works and doesn't need a lot of attention, I guess. I'll be repurchasing my third lip pencil soon, the one I'm currently using looks a little gross - and used and loved. I always go for the shade Sugar Glass because it's a brown that suits my pale complexion really well. A neutral lip is almost always my go-to.

Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara €2.59

Essence Cosmetics was on sale a couple of months ago at the drugstore and I made sure to order 4 of them. I use the shade 01 Blondy Brows. I'm afraid they'll discontinue this product as well, you know. Essence always discontinues everything I like from their brand, it's very annoying. Remember that nude highlighter? Gone too, unacceptable. Anyway, if you want your brows to stay in place all day, this is for you. It's ridiculously cheap and it works wonders. I use it after applying a brow pomade, it's a great combo! Best eyebrow gel mascara ever, and I've tried many. Both the brush and the product are a must have.

L'Oreal Accord Parfait Foundation Golden Ivory €16.99

I attended an event for the relaunch of this foundation in 2017 and I haven't let go of it since. Yes, I admit, it's packed with shimmer but - it makes my face look so good. I don't need a primer, just my daily moisturiser, and the stuff doesn't oxidise. Bye bye orange face! I've never had anyone tell me I look like a disco ball, so we're good in that department too and the product makes for a smooth and even complexion. I don't have issues with it looking patchy, accentuating my pores or getting into fine lines. I do like to use a setting spray when I'm done doing a full face of makeup, just to bring back some moisture into my skin. Golden Ivory is my perfect shade for Fall, Winter and Spring. In Summer I tend to mix it up with a darker foundation.

Revolution Pro Brow Pomade Blonde €5.95

I didn't believe the brow pomade craze for the longest time. In my head, there was just no way a pomade could imitate a natural looking brow. Boy, was I wrong. I started trying different ones and eventually got hooked on the Freedom brow pomade. Unfortunately the brand was discontinued soon after so I opted for the Revolution Pro Brow Pomade assuming both brands are owned by the same company so maybe the pomades are the same formula wise? Anyway, I'm very happy with the brow pomade, my own family doesn't even know half the time that is what I am wearing. They just assume that is what my brows actually look like even though they're naturally very sparse. I've never had issues with this formula, my brows stay in place all day long. The product is pretty much sweat proof if you ask me. They only tend to budge when I wear sunglasses or prescription glasses.

Miss Sporty Perfect Stay Liquid Concealer 001 Light €2.99

I'm not exactly sure when I first started using this concealer but I think it's been years at this point. The formula is moisturising, has a light to medium coverage and makes your skin look healthy and awake. I often have issues with concealers getting into fine lines when I use them on my under eyes but not with this one. Once set with powder it looks so nice. The shade range is awful however and it's a product that is becoming increasingly hard to find, I'm thinking they're probably discontinuing it. I used to buy it online, now I only have a chance to purchase it when I visit the Netherlands. Maybe they're updating the packaging? Who knows.

RCMA No Color Powder €15.25

I was given a sample of this powder by a friend and to say that I like it is probably an understatement. This stuff is magic! I'd heard of it many times before but I was never a fan of the idea of using a white powder. I was convinced it would make my face look grey. Needless to say it doesn't, I couldn't and can't stop using it. I've never seen my foundation look so nice, my skin so smooth and left so soft. As much as I love this powder though, RCMA really should be changing up the packaging - as it's hella unpractical. It comes in a bottle similar to the ones used to store spices. I also want to add that I purchased mine from RCMA Europe and the way they shipped me this item left a lot to be desired. Like it came straight out of a dumpster. Very bizarre to say the least.

Sephora Face Shimmering Powder 02 Natural Glow €14.99

I purchased this product in France back in March and it's the only highlighter I've used since. I'd never tried anything from the Sephora makeup brand before. I'm close to hitting pan, I'm pretty sure. They had 2 different shades on display and I opted for the darkest one. I like my highlighters to be warm. The reason why I'm so crazy about this formula is because the powder is soft, finely mild, it doesn't leave any flakes and it blends in super nicely. It doesn't accentuate pores or fine lines no matter how much you apply and I tend to ehm ..  drown myself in this stuff. Flash the haters as they say! I recommend it, it was my first time buying a highlighter that was so 'expensive' and I don't regret it. It's beautiful, I tend to spend more on base products and less on blush, highlighter and bronzer.

Catrice Strobing Brick 010 Brown Brilliance €4.99

Speaking about bronzer, I'm not sure how long Catrice will still be selling this but I'm surprised about how much I actually use this Strobing Brick. Meaning, I use it every single time I do my makeup. I've never been much of a contouring gal, I just like to bring some warmth into my face using any type of product that kind of looks like a bronzer - and this looks like one. I love the combination of the colors, the different variations of brown, obviously I don't really use the white highlighter that is part of the brick. I swirl my stippling brush over the bronzer shades and apply the product on my temples, my jaw, my ears and my neck. My body is more tan than my neck and face and since I don't use any tanning products I just use bronzer to even out my skin tone and it looks beautiful.

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette €55.05

If you follow my insta stories you've probably noticed how generous Urban Decay Belgium has been, kindly sending me their newest collections to try and share with all my followers. I'd seen a cherry palette floating around on Twitter way before it launched in Belgium, I genuinely thought it was a fake until I received it in my mail box months later! I had to catch my breath when I opened it for the first time, I was even more stunned by how casually I started using the shades in this palette. I never purchased the Naked 3 palette because of all the rosy shades, I didn't think I would like them, while this one is even rosier! I wanted to include the Urban Decay Naked Cherry because I think it would be a nice gift. It sure stands out from all their other Naked palettes. Even though the shades seem quite loud, a lot of the looks I've been creating are fairly neutral, also smokey. Caution, Turn On, Ambitious and Drunk Dial are some of my favorites. I love the fact that they also included a matte dark brown, Privacy, I use that kind of color for almost all my eyeshadow looks, it looks great as a finishing touch.
