Celebrating The Holidays Alone

For many of us the Christmas holidays are a time of joy, an opportunity to make good memories with the people we hold near and dear to our heart. To laugh together, to drink hot chocolate, to enjoy the twinkling lights and the smell of beautifully decorated pine trees, the smell of good Christmas cuisine and sweet chocolate. For me, Christmas is a holiday that brings up a lot of painful memories, and trying to get into the Christmas spirit has been a bit tough. Over the past years I've cried at almost every Christmas dinner as I was held responsible for actions that were not mine and it's left scars. This year I'm celebrating the holidays alone and that only and entirely for my own wellbeing.

Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Review

After multiple makeup brands started releasing tinted brow gels with fibers, I knew Essence Cosmetics would eventually follow, the best news is: they went for a Benefit Gimme Brow dupe. The packaging of both products is almost identical: small, compact, very travel friendly and of course way cheaper. Essence released three different eyebrow gel shades, 01 Blondy Brows for blondes, 02 Browny Brows for people with dark eyebrows and 03 Soft Browny Brows for brunettes. Let's have look!

Next to Essence Cosmetics, Catrice has quickly become one of my favorite drugstore makeup brands. They have beautiful, high quality products that are not only affordable but work amazing. Here is a review and wrap up of all the makeup products I have tried in 2016 and whether I think they are Catrice Cosmetics hits or misses. Let's have a look!

Shaka Beauty Contouring Palette Review

Contouring, shaping, sculpting, .. the labels for makeup products that give dimension to the face by are endless! Other than highlighting, contouring gives a warmer appearance to the skin, a natural shadow and sun glow. I love to contour, as it can turn my round face into a sharper, more expressive look. Shaka Innovative Beauty kindly sent me two contouring makeup palettes. Did the drugstore makeup from Shaka convince me? Let's have a look!

Wunderbrow Semi Permanent Brow Gel

Let's face it, when it comes to makeup, brows can really make or break your look, so having the perfect eyebrow gear is essential! I love doing my brows, from the tweezing, to the shaping to creating the perfect eyebrows to frame my face. A couple of weeks ago I got the opportunity to try and review the Wunder2 Wunderbrow 1-Step Brow Gel. Dealing with sparse, light and pretty much non existent brows, I was very eager to see what it could do for me. Perfect semi permanent brows, using permafix technology, in less than 2 minutes, that lasts for days? Yes please!

Shaka Innovative Beauty Strobing Palette & Illuminating Highlighter Sticks Review

Strobing, highlighting, illuminating, as long as every cheekbone gets to shine every makeup addict is happy, including me. I love a pretty, affordable, drugstore highlighter. It gives dimension to my face and a fresh and healthy glow. Did Shaka Innovative Beauty convince me? They kindly sent me a strobing palette and two illuminating highlighter sticks. Let's have a look!

Shaka Beauty Strobing Palette 101 Highlighting €8.99

I'm not that excited about the Shaka Beauty Strobing Palette. The texture of the shades is greasy, the shimmer particles don't look very flattering on the skin and there isn't too much of a difference between all the shades when they are swatched. The formula feels very vaseline-like which is not something I enjoy applying underneath or over top of my makeup. It moves around my foundation and ends up all over my face, making me look like a disco ball. I like the idea of this strobing palette a lot but I think it could definitely be improved. I wasn't sure about the texture of these highlighters before I swatched them for review, but now that I do I think these would have been great in powder form.

Shaka Beauty Illuminating Highlighter Stick 02 Pearly Rose €4.99 (top swatch)
Shaka Beauty Illuminating Highlighter Stick 4 Coral €4.99 (bottom swatch)

The Shaka Illuminating Sticks on the other hand, are pretty great. When I used them for the first time my eyes widened in disbelief. The pigmentation is excellent and the effect on the skin is beautiful. They're a little greasy but nothing you can't work with or that affects the rest of your face makeup. I love to apply these with my Beautyblender Micro Mini Makeup Sponge dupes. The texture is comfortable and the effect is a beautiful and intense highlighted look. Of course the Coral Highlighter is better off used as a blush if you have a pale complexion, both these colors used together are beautiful. Shaka Beauty has 6 different shades available all fit for different skin tones.

Shaka Innovative Beauty is available at OVS, Upim & Coin.

How To Boost Your Traffic When Using Bloglovin'

As some of you might have noticed, I had to change the feed settings of my website due to diverted content, or more accurately a potential loss of page views, visitors and money. As a result I can no longer provide a full RSS feed, which means that whenever you don't read my content directly on my website but on other platforms (e.g. Bloglovin, subscription by email etc.) there will be a read more button that will refer you to my blog. This was a direct consequence of the fact that not everyone who follows my blog through Bloglovin' actually ends up reading my articles 'inframed' on my website. As it turns out Bloglovin' doesn't embed blogposts on tablets and smartphones. They do embed the post yes, but not on your site, only on their own platform.

Shaka Beauty Concealer Stick Review

Shortly after reviewing the Shaka Innovative Beauty Blush, I received an email from Shaka's PR team asking whether I were interested in reviewing some of their new products. Since Italian makeup and fashion have always been well appreciated, I thought this was a great opportunity to share this beauty brand with you on my blog. Shaka Innovative Beauty is an affordable drugstore makeup brand sold at OVS, Upim and Coin. I've been familiar with it for quite some time as I spent 4 years living and working in Italy. I decided to start with reviewing the Shaka Innovative Beauty Concealer Sticks first. Want to see more Shaka makeup? I did a 'What's New At The Drugstore Makeup Unboxing' here.

Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipstick Review

Ever since Essence Cosmetics released their longlasting lipsticks back in 2014 I've been hooked on their lip products. The quality is outstanding and unlike any other lipstick formula out there, I'm a big fan. This year Essence has launched yet another new lip addition to the collection: the Essence Matt Matt Matt Lispticks. They retail for €2.39 and have 8 different shades available. I purchased nr 2 Perfect Match and nr 8 It's a Statement. Let's have a look!

Oh Hello Depression, How Are You Doing Today?

The past few weeks have been very hard. My appetite is gone, I'm distracted, forgetful, anxious and lack motivation. I haven't been answering my phone calls and have been ignoring emails. I wake up in the morning and I'm happy, I have breakfast, I shower but then as soon as I have my clothes on I wonder 'why?', followed by an intense and overwhelming sadness. I'm ready for the day and I have no purpose, no goals and absolutely no will to be a part of what is life.

Things To Think About Before Moving In Together With Your Boyfriend

I see so many women, mostly freshly graduated, moving out of their parents home and going straight to buying houses or renting an apartment with their boyfriend. As logical as that might sound, I'm happy for them but I'm also taken back by it. I moved into a dorm when I was 18, travelled to Italy when I was 19 and started living there full time when I was 20. That's when I got a real taste of what it was to grow up and spend time with myself, essentially. It's true that me and my boyfriend started living together after barely knowing each other for a year, but I was 22 and he was 27. We both had lived alone, with friends, host families, and we had a sense of life. What adulting was like, running a place of your own, having space for yourself and developing your identity.

Essence 2in1 Eyeshadow & Primer Review

Just as it is important to use a primer before applying your foundation, to smooth out and prep your skin, so is it important to prime your eyelid before creating an eyeshadow look. Essence Cosmetics released a new 2in1 Eyeshadow & Primer for a longlasting, brightening and flawless finish. They have two different shades available: a white base with a yellow undertone, called 01 Nude Beige, and a pink base, called 02 Nude Rosé. Let's have a look!

Therapy Update⎜Expectations vs. Reality

It is the day after my second therapy appointment within a week and I have a hard time collecting my thoughts. After 6 months of intense therapy sessions I found out a thorough assessment of my mental health was never going to happen. Being potentially diagnosed or referred to other mental health professionals for medication or other forms of therapy/treatments wasn't going to happen either. The facility where I ended up (only) offers therapy sessions to help you manage your thoughts/emotions and overcome life struggles, even though they have all the resources to actually do what I described.

Shaka Innovative Beauty Blush Review

Shaka Innovative Beauty is an Italian makeup brand by a drugstore called OVS where I recently went shopping whilst on a trip in Milan, hence the International Beauty & Makeup Haul I uploaded on my Youtube channel. It's an affordable cosmetics brand that has products ranging from lipsticks and lip glosses, to eyeshadow palettes and even makeup brushes. I've known Shaka for a while but this is the first time I've ever tried a product from them. I purchased a Shaka Blush in the shade nr 11 Nude. Let's have a look!

Going To Therapy As A Highly Sensitive Person

I'm having one of these weird aha moments. After going down a spiral of anger, disgust, mistrust and feelings of deception towards my therapist, I think I have finally found some clarity. I was about to cancel my appointment again when I decided to google whether highly sensitive people (HSP) require a specific type of counseling. Which we don't (as far as I know), but we do need a counselor who is aware and respectful towards that fact, and I can't say that the mental health professionals I've been in touch with have been.

When I spotted this Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation in the press release of the Fall/Winter makeup collection update from Catrice Cosmetics, it immediately made it into my wish list. The packaging is eye catching and the product looks really promising. Will the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation be your new staple? Let's have a look!

Therapy Update⎜I Cancelled

I've touched on this subject before, not the fact that I'm considering going to another mental health professional, but that my current therapist doesn't want to confirm that I actually suffer from anxiety and that, before I became her patient, I was so depressed they wanted to send to a mental health care facility. When I ask her what's wrong with me, she says I'm normal; when I ask her to label me she becomes defensive; when I ask her what I am being treated for she wanders around my question, saying we can talk about what I feel comfortable with.

Catrice Matt Lip Artist Review & Swatches

A great matte lipstick is not hard to find, but a great low budget matte lipstick is not available in every drugstore, so Catrice Cosmetics released their 6h Matt Lip Artists. They have 7 different shades available that come in sleek, black, matte packaging, indicating the color of every lipstick at the bottom. I purchased 070 First bROWn Ticket, a dark red, should you buy it or leave it? Let's have a look!

Primark PS PRO Flat Edge Blender Review

After the launch of the Primark PS PRO makeup line, Primark Beauty added some new PS PRO makeup tools to their shelves. One of them is the blue, non latex Flat Edge Blender that retails for only €2.50-. I've tried Primark makeup sponges before and to be honest it was quite disastrous, did Primark Beauty step up their game? Let's have a look!

The Day My Mom Wanted To Die Was The Day I Decided To Live - #WorldSuicidePreventionDay

Today, exactly one year ago, I received the most terrifying phone call of my life. My mom, completely pilled out, on the other side of the telephone line terribly heart broken, wanting to die. She told me how she tried to commit suicide, by overdosing on sleeping pills, trying to cut her wrist, then overdosing on sleeping pills again, and failed. She had no notion of what she was doing and doesn't recollect this phone call, but I remember it like it just happened yesterday.

TOP 5 Foods for a Healthy Mind & Body

I'm not a doctor, psychologist or nutritionist but I do know first hand what depression and anxiety can do to your mind and your body. I know how tempting sugary and unhealthy foods can be and how the complete opposite, like starving yourself, can also seem like a good idea. I know how 'devouring lots of fruits and veggies' sounds like absolute bull crap, because at times that's all you eat and still, you feel worn-out and consumed by sadness. The anxiety that comes with depression also plays a big role, as it doesn't only induce fear, it often makes for a rather painful stomach, and poor digestive tract. Here are the foods that I have found that make for a healthy mindset and beat anxiety and depression to its core.

TOP 3 Favorite Mood Uplifting Podcasts

There are 3 podcasts I listen to religiously, and they all have me bursting out in laughter time and time again. They are a part of my self care routine, my natural medicine to stress, anxiety and mood swings. They make me happy, feel like I'm a part of something. I love a good conversation about sex, relationships, internet drama, youtube creator's drama in particular, and more recently also pop culture. Here's a top 3 list of podcasts you have to follow!

Best & Worst Drugstore Matte Liquid Lipsticks

Liquid lipsticks are trending, there's no doubt about it, pull off a great matte liquid lip and you can take over the internet. High end makeup brands seem to slay the scene, and with Kylie Jenner's recent lip kit launches, makeup lovers are going absolutely nuts over a liquid lip look. I was wondering, do highstreet makeup companies have our back? Can they provide awesome and affordable liquid lipsticks? Here's my review and comparison of the best and worst matte drugstore liquid lipsticks!

I survived another year⎜Turning 26

When I realised a couple weeks ago that it was going to my birthday today I got really upset, I didn't want to turn 26 and I didn't want to celebrate my birthday. I felt as if there was nothing to celebrate and that I didn't deserve to be celebrated. The feeling of simply not wanting to 'be' or 'exist' was overwhelming, and it quickly turned into tears. I had trouble figuring out what I had accomplished this year, what there was to be proud of, which milestones I had achieved. I took me a while but I got there eventually: I survived another year and that is good enough.

How Mental Illness Affects My Friendships

As I am writing this, notifications keep on lighting up my cell phone and it's making me feel a lot of things. I'm part of a group conversation on WhatsApp with the people I met when I worked in Milan as an au pair. Even though I consider them my best friends and I love them to bits I just can't bring myself to join or even read what they are talking about. I'm ashamed of my current situation and I'm afraid I will turn the discussion into a pity party.
