NEW Skin Care Routine For Acne Prone Skin

Skin Care Routine For Acne Prone Skin

My whole life I've had clear skin, always. The only kind of breakouts I would get were tiny little ones caused by fluctuations in my hormones. Back in July this year I suddenly started to have acne all over my forehead, my nose and chin, big painful breakouts that would take ages to heal. I completely freaked out, this hadn't even happened when I hit puberty. Honestly, adult acne sucks. It took me a while to find products that would actually 'work'. Most of the drugstore skin care that I already owned would just cause my skin to break out even more so I ventured into a more expensive skin care realm. Let's have a look!

- I have acne but I don't have oily skin?

Even though I have acne I don't actually have skin that is overly oily. I have an oily nose, and very oily eyelids, but that's probably about it. I still have a lot of breakouts on my face but it's a lot better than it used to be a couple months ago. When the first nasty breakouts hit I started using all kinds of products that would dry out my face until it would be so dehydrated it was actually peeling. A very bad idea, my face was red and just so so unhappy. I think I'm still dealing with some of the consequences at this point.

- The new skin care routine

I know I recently reviewed some products from The Ordinary but they did end up being a bit too harsh for my skin, causing it to be incredibly red. I only use the Salicylic Acid Solution 2% once in a while now, to speed up the exfoliation process of my skin. It helps the acne to clear up faster. The Bioderma Micellar Water was something I immediately gravitated towards to remove my makeup with. I choose to use the one for sensitive skin, it treats my breakouts and also works great as a toner. I always make sure this water has sunken into my skin properly before applying other products. The Caudalie Cleansing Milk I purchased to make sure I give my skin a good but gentle cleanse. It is a completely new product for me, hence the one in the picture being a travel size. I wanted to try it first and see, luckily I fell in love with it from the first time I used it. This cleanser is for all skin types and leaves your skin so soft after use it almost feels like you actually applied a moisturiser. The residue of the cleanser doesn't feel greasy at all, which to me is pretty amazing. I'm a fan! Even though I like to use the Bioderma Micellar Water as  a toner, I also use another toning product: the Vita Verde Cornflower Water. It helps to reduce swelling and has strong anti inflammatory properties. I do plan on buying the Vita Verde Rose Water after I finish this one however, it should be even more beneficial for treating acne. As a moisturiser I currently use the Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Moisturizer SPF 20. The one from La Roche-Posay I was using previously was way too mattifying and the one from Avène too greasy. I agree this Caudalie moisturiser is very expensive, I paid nearly €27, but it makes my skin feel really great, very soft, moisturised, it works as makeup primer and it doesn't upset the balance of my skin. The last product I want to talk about is the La Roche-Posay Effaclar A.I. Targeted Imperfection Corrector. I don't recommend putting this on big, nasty breakouts as I noticed it tends to worsen acne scarring, but on small ones yes - or acne that is still underneath the skin. I like to use this as an overnight treatment. Don't confuse this product with the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo + as it's not the same, this is a targeted treatment, the Duo + isn't.

- The acne update

I plan on updating you about skin and skin care routine in a couple months again but I hope that being consistent with my routine will improve my skin situation and that it will become a lot more manageable in the future. Of course I would like my face to be like it was before all of this acne decided to settle but right now I'm concentrating on just getting it better little by little. If you'd like to see what my skin looks like at the moment I do give a lot of skin updates on my Snapchat. There you have a chance to see everything in real time, including PR unboxings and mental health updates. I have a package for me waiting at the post office so I expect to see you all on my Snap today!
