Makeup trends change, makeup collections expand, makeup formulas evolve but there's one thing in the cosmetics industry that doesn't change: cult beauty products! They got top rates back then and they still have top rates now. Over time, I've collected quite a few popular items and I've been very eager to share with you whether I think hyped makeup products are worth it or not. Let's have a look!
Milani Baked Blush 05 Luminoso €10.99
Even though this has been one of the most hyped makeup products over the years, I was not really wowed by it. The blush is pretty but I'm not amazed by the color or the formula. I have to admit it looks particularly pretty on camera and in pictures, but other than that I just consider it a regular blush. I'm happy I finally got to try it though, the satisfaction of finally owning something I've been seeing online for so long is just really great.
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil 604 Milk €5.50
In the early Youtube days this was the must have of the century! Many drugstore brands have caught up since then, and even improved the idea and formula of the jumbo pencil. 'Milk' from NYX Cosmetics was definitely the most popular pencil of all, it's a plain white creme eyeshadow, and I have to admit I haven't reached for it a whole lot. I purchased it together with the shade 'Yoghurt', a bronze color, and I just don't find them that great, not as an eyeliner and not as an eyeshadow base. The formula doesn't blend well on my skin type and it creases really badly.
I feel like MAC Cosmetics is one of the only brands that has been around consistently over the years. Their cremesheen lipsticks, foundations and powders are the products I've always heard the great things about. I received a cremesheen lipstick, in the shade 'Fanfare', as a gift and even though I like the lipstick I don't wear it, ever. Fanfare is a neutral, pinky color that is perfectly wearable on an every day basis but it just doesn't have an 'it formula' to me, I'm just as happy with a €2 lippie from Essence Cosmetics, no joke.
NYX High Definition Blush Taupe €7.50
If there is one cult beauty product I am honestly, truly excited about, it is this blush from NYX. Even though I thought it would be too cool toned for my skin tone, it is absolutely perfect. The formula is pigmented and super easy to blend, I highly recommend it and I am looking forward to trying more of their High Definition blushes.
The Original beautyblender €19.95
I tried the beautyblender for the first time back in april 2015, I think it was one of the first hyped beauty products I ever purchased (besides the Urban Decay Naked palette, but more on that later) and I was very, very impressed. I haven't changed the way I apply my foundation since, it gives such a beautiful and airbrushed finish to the skin. The beautyblender is definitely expensive, considering it's an item you can only keep around for 3 months for hygienic reasons, but it's totally worth a try. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is great and even more affordable: the Primark PS PRO Makeup Sponges, highly recommend.
Sleek Makeup Blush €6.49
Sleek has always impressed everyone with their gorgeous and sleek cosmetics' packaging, especially for those drugstore prices. The blushes, I believe, have always had top shelf reviews, even from beauty bloggers who mainly like to use high end makeup products. I have 3 blushes from Sleek and they're okay, I like the shade Suede in particular, but they're not blushes I reach for often because of the dry texture, I prefer something more smooth.
Urban Decay Naked Palette €52.90
This was my very first high end eyeshadow palette purchase and I don't regret it for the world. I bought it when I lived in the fashion capital of the planet, Milan, Italy, at Sephora and I'm just obsessed. Even though I don't use it that often anymore, I remember not being able to use anything else when I first got it. Now it is displayed in the back of my Youtube videos as a nice piece of decor and I love it.
Even though I don't actually think cult beauty products are worth it, it doesn't stop me from wanting to try them. I've been more disappointed with hyped makeup products than satisfied for sure, but as a blogger I think it's important to share my thoughts about what is popular in the beauty industry. I don't regret purchasing and trying the products but I do think most of them are makeup regrets.
More cult beauty products I want to try:
Revlon Colorstay Foundation
NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish
MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre
Ardell Wispies False Eyelashes
Q: Have you tried any of these cult beauty products? Which other cult beauty products should I try? Leave it in the comments below!
