Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation Review

I know I've been reviewing a hell of a lot of foundations lately but I feel like the drugstores have so many amazing products in their makeup aisles at the moment that just I can't handle myself! The Maybelline Dream Cushion was next on my list. I've been featuring quite a few of the new 2017 Maybelline makeup launches, such as the 24K Nudes Eyeshadow Palette and their Color Drama Lip Contour Palettes, and I didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to try their take on the cushion makeup trend. Here are my thoughts!

My love for cushion makeup started with the L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation, it was one of the first cushion products that made its way into Belgian drugstores (Di Beauty, Kruidvat). The formulation of cushion cosmetics is truly unique and unlike anything else you can find in most makeup aisles. If you're not familiar with this kind of makeup but you're always in to try something new, I highly suggest you starting looking into this (Korean) makeup trend. It is a liquid foundation that comes in a sponge, carried in a compact. The foundation comes with a mirror, an extra seal to make sure the foundation doesn't dry down and another little sponge you can use to tap tap the product onto your skin (I prefer using an actual makeup sponge, such as the Real Techniques Complexion Sponge).

The packaging of the Maybelline Dream Cushion is pretty much identical to the one from L'Oreal, except for the color and the label of course. The formula on the other hand is drier, easier to build up and the shade range is much darker. The Dream Cushion you can see in my images is in the shade 30 Sand; since that one turned out to be a little too dark for me I did go back to the drugstore to pick up the Maybelline Cushion in 10 Ivory, but also that one turned out to be too dark for my pale complexion. Even though I think cushion foundations are pretty amazing (regardless of the shades matching me or not), you do have to keep in mind that these come with a lot less product than a regular foundation would. This compact only contains 15ml of product whilst a regular foundation bottle comes with 30ml.

I like the Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation for exactly 5 reasons:

1) It comes with an SPF of 20 which is excellent for the upcoming Spring season
2) It has a medium to full coverage formula
3) It is smooth & easy to blend
4) It's travel friendly
5) It's more budget friendly than the one from L'Oreal (€12.99 vs. €17.99)

Would I recommend it? Yes, I for a fact can't wait for the Spring sunshine to come around to be able to wear this foundation full time!

  1. I definitely want to give this a go. I always hesitate on the L'oreal one because it's pretty pricey for a drugstore foundation. This sounds great, so maybe I'll start exploring cushion foundations with this one! :)

  3. Yeah I was scared that the maybelline one would be too dark :D My skin is darker than your's (cause my l'oreal cushion is in shade 6) but I still didn't want to risk it hehe :D

    1. I actually find it weird that the shades of these brands are so different, I purchased the one from Maybelline in nr 30 because in the one from L'Oreal in shade nr 3 is an exact match xD fail

  4. I'm very curious on cushion foundation but also hesitant coz of the price point. In my country L'oréal one has the price of 13 euros. Maybe that wouldn't have bother me if it contained standard 30ml of product.

    1. It's expensive indeed for what you get indeed, maybe in the future some more affordable brands will jump on the cushion foundation trend, that would be awesome :D
