3X Best Affordable Face Primers for Dry Skin

The change of season has definitely affected the way I do my makeup. My skin is undergoing subtle changes and it makes me reach for more caring and moisturizing products. Next to my regular skin care routine I've been looking for makeup primers that can prevent my foundation, and concealer, from looking patchy and building up into fine lines, which is a major concern of mine. So here is a list of drugstore makeup primers that have been working out great for me, let's have a look!

- Olaz Beauty Fluid €5.69

Moisturizers are always my go-to when it comes to makeup primers. They keep your skin hydrated and create a great smooth base for your makeup. Olaz/Olay is a great skin care brand for that, their products are high quality and actually work, even the more affordable options they offer. The retail price of the Beauty Fluid fluctuates depending on which country you live in, but I know for a fact that it can be purchased for less than €5 in many places. If you live in Belgium try going to Action, I recently stocked up on the Olaz Beauty Fluid there because it's sold for €3. I love bargains, especially for products that make a difference for my skin and improve makeup wear.

- Catrice Prime & Fine Multitalent Fixing Spray €4.59

Makeup setting sprays, in general, are really good makeup bases, but low budget makeup fixing sprays are tricky as a lot of them just don't get the job right. The best and most affordable one I found so far is the Prime & Fine Multitalent Fixing Spray from Catrice. You can either spray it directly on your face, dampen your makeup sponge with it and then apply your foundation, or spritz some on when you're done with your makeup. Some other options that might also interest you, and only retail for a couple euros more, are the Elf Makeup Mist & Set and the Evian Facial Spray

- Essence Get Picture Ready Primer €3.59

This moisturizing and mattifying primer feels soothing and is the perfect base to prevent your makeup from flaking and being patchy. It leaves the skin soft and smoothes out fine lines. Because I've experienced breakouts from Essence Primers before, I don't want to recommend this allround, but if you don't have sensitive skin it is definitely worth checking out. While a lot of low budget primers feel like simple moisturizers to me, the Get Picture Ready Mattifying Primer from Essence doesn't. It's a great formula.

  1. Jolien, here is another option for tinting your foundation. This product is very pigmented so you only need a tiny drop:

  2. You're welcome! I read a rec for this on makeupalley; a woman uses a tiny speck of the brown mixed with her sunscreen which otherwise leaves a white cast. I also saw a similar product at a GOSH display, I think they are called foundation drops, though I found them kind of oily when I did a quick test. For primers, I've used the Olay fluid a lot & like it because it's so invisible/ungreasy; we have a knockoff in the US by Traderjoe's (an alternative hip grocery store with some beauty & health products). I use the version with sunscreen (in the US Olay comes with or without sunscreen). Have a good day (or night) also!! xxxx

    1. I've heard about the GOSH foundation drops but GOSH has been removed in many drugstores around me, I assume because it does't sell that well. I think I could buy them online however :) Olay is my favorite skincare brand for moisturizers and makeup removers. I'm crazy about their Daily Facial In a box, the dry cloths. I just purchased 4 packs! Have a good day also :D Xxx
