The amount of bloggers I follow that have moved their website from the Blogger platform to Wordpress is so high it honestly is making me sweat. What is so great about Wordpress that Blogger just can't keep its users? I keep hearing about these amazing plugins and SEO advantages but somehow I just can't be bothered. Everything I want and need, is on my site. Is Wordpress worth it or is it just a hype?
I've done research on this topic more than I can remember and all the articles I've read are always written in favour of Wordpress, and pretty much sum up the same 'drawbacks' when it comes to using the Blogger platform: you're not the owner of your content because Google is the tech mojo providing the service, Google can shut down your site whenever they want and they can deny you access whenever they want. The platform hasn't been updated in absolutely ages and only offers a limited amount of tools and support. The 'only' plus about Blogger is that it comes with Google's security features. In all those years that I've been using Blogger, I've always loved the simplicity of the site, how easily I can connect to more Google features, like Adsense and Analytics, and how I can access different accounts in the same place, like going from my blog to my youtube channel. Through Blogger I've taught myself to be pretty HTML savvy and make my website exactly the way I want it to be. I have no clue what Wordpress bloggers are talking about when they say Blogger only has a limited amount features available that can't be customised, my template is completely customised and responsive. Everything I've ever paid for on my site is also very budget friendly. When I hear smaller bloggers talking about paying €150 for hosting per year or 2 to €300 for a personalised template, my eyes widen in disbelief. If I had bills like that to pay I wouldn't be blogging right now.
I would love to know what all the fuss is about, is Wordpress really that much better than Blogger? Am I missing out? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
