Best & Worst Drugstore Matte Liquid Lipsticks

Liquid lipsticks are trending, there's no doubt about it, pull off a great matte liquid lip and you can take over the internet. High end makeup brands seem to slay the scene, and with Kylie Jenner's recent lip kit launches, makeup lovers are going absolutely nuts over a liquid lip look. I was wondering, do highstreet makeup companies have our back? Can they provide awesome and affordable liquid lipsticks? Here's my review and comparison of the best and worst matte drugstore liquid lipsticks!

I tested all liquid lipsticks on dry, non moisturised lips, as moisturising was the main cause for streakiness for a lot of these lipstick formulas. For a flawless application I also don't recommend pressing the lips together to blend the product, it proved to mess up the look more often than I'd like to admit. None of the liquid lipsticks survived or looked decent after a meal, as indicated in the individual reviews some formulas could be touched up after and some had to be completely removed to be wearable again. The long dow foot applicator, for a couple of the lipsticks, isn't very practical, it doesn't allow for a lot of precision and is just difficult to work with. Overall I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the matte drugstore liquid lipsticks, none of them proved to be bad or absolute no-no's, however there's one lipstick I find to be the best of the bunch. Keep on reading to find out!

If you want a great and affordable, matte liquid lip, Sleek is the brand that I would recommend. The liquid lipstick formula is pigmented, actually matte and can be touched up without a problem after drinking or eating. Even though I like the other lipstick options in this post, I simply don't find them to be a good fit for the 'matte liquid lipstick' label. The Matte Me Lip Creams from Sleek are comfortable, beautiful and available in 12 different shades.

  1. I haven't tried any other than the Balm liquid Matte lipstick. I didn't like how much it dried out my lips or how it flaked.

    1. I think that's a very common problem for liquid lipsticks, that's part of the reasons why it took me so long before purchasing any :)
