NEW - H&M Conscious Dry Shampoo Review

H&M launched a new beauty line, one that is eco friendly, organic, certified by Ecocert and part of their already existing clothing line called H&M Conscious. The 2016 H&M Conscious Beauty Collection has everything covered from hair care, to skin care, to body products. Today I want to talk about their refreshing, cleansing and stimulating peppermint dry shampoo. Having dealt with an oily scalp my whole life I would go as far as saying I'm the perfect candidate to give you my thoughts.

Purchasing this product I was very impressed with the box it came in, it looks very cute and appealing, I personally love the black and white details. The container itself I don't like so much, it's plain and doesn't show much life. The H&M dry shampoo contains certified organic potato starch and is fragranced with essential oils. I have to admit I was a little afraid it would smell a lot like mens' deodorant, overboard minty and strong, but it doesn't. The scent is comparable to having made peppermint tea, it's pleasant and simple.

Depending on what you are looking for in a dry shampoo you're either going to love or hate this product. If you have an oily scalp like me, any dry shampoo that holds up more than a couple hours is great, one that keeps your hair fresh all day is a miracle. Most girls just opt for a bit of volume at the roots and a nice lingering scent. This dry shampoo doesn't do that, it's not made to be stylish, its purpose truly and only is to keep the oils on your scalp at bay all day long. However I can't say that the awesome staying power of this product doesn't come with a couple surprises. I highly recommend brushing your hair very thoroughly before applying it. This formula dry shampoo makes you hair extremely coarse, like you've spent a whole week at the beach without washing it. Your hair will have an insane amount of volume but it won't be very manageable. On greasy days where I reach for this product, putting my hair up in a bun is standard procedure. My hairdo looks sleek, fly-away free and doesn't move, it all stays in place and there is no need for reapplying product later on during the dayYour hair wont feel fresh to the touch however and you will have residue on your hands every single time you'll play with it. I advise washing off the leftovers as the feeling left on your hands afterwards can be uncomfortable. The method of sprinkling this over your hair I find not to be very effective, it works but it's easy to over go over board, I would prefer the cap of a salt sprinkler, the hole on top doesn't make for an easy or even application.

That being said I love this dry shampoo. I finally don't have to worry about washing my hair everyday or having to carry extra samples of dry shampoo spray bottles in my handbag, just in case my hair decides to go haywire again. The fact that this product is organic makes me even more excited. I've used this dry shampoo more than I can remember which is something that was impossible with spray cans, they would empty after about 3 uses. I think for the price for the H&M peppermint dry shampoo is most definitely worth you money and a great investment if you have greasy hair.

  1. Hello !
I discover your blog for the first time, I really like it !
My favorite dry shampoo is the Batiste one ("Blush"). I didn't try the new beauty range of H&M already but not for long :)

Have a nice day ! xx

    1. Hey Marine! Thanks for checking out my site :D I really appreciate it. The Batiste hair care brand is great, I just wish they'd opt for a more long lasting dry shampoo formula, I always find myself reapplying throughput the day and finish a can in no time, a real pitty. H&M Beauty has some great products in stock, you should check out some ;)

  2. Hi!! I though it was my imagination the coarse feeling on my hair, I complete agree with your review. It's not good if I want to style my second day hair with hot tools but just to keep it super clean and do a bun or a ponytail.

    1. Exactly, I would even say to style it before hand and then apply the dry shampoo :)

  3. I bought the H&M dry shampoo a couple of months ago and I was searching for reviews. Yours is pretty accurate, I have to say.

I have the same problem with the stiffness of my hair when using this shampoo and the main reason is that the 3rd ingredient is Sodium Bicarbonate. This is also responsible for the larger particles which show in my roots terribly (I have very dark brown hair, coloured with henna... so pretty dark hair). The cornstarch is very fine and powdery, but this is not the case for baking soda. I tried before to use as a dry shampoo the baking soda alone, and this H&M dry shampoo feels exactely like that + aromas.

Now that I have emptied more than the 2/3 of the bottle, I added my go-to organic cornstarch to the bottle and shaken it very well. It's ten times better now. The stiffness and almost stickiness of the roots is not a problem, and that's because of the soda being in a very small percentage now.

Finally, I have to say the good old organic cornstarch (or arrowroot powder) is my holy grail! I can add a couple of essential oils of my choice (mint and lavender is a great refreshing combination!) and shake the bottle well and that's good to go. Give that a try and maybe you can find it works for you and save some money on nice-packaging-but-not-so-good-products :)
